Why Choose A Career In Policing?

Today I came across a piece of news that startled me. Delhi Police has the least number of applicants from Delhi. I was baffled, ideally it should have been the exact opposite. The 80,000+ force comprises of personnel mostly from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. In my opinion the today's youth living in metropolitan cities has preconceived notions about police. They are ill aware and do not even consider policing as a career option all thanks to a vicious image created by the media. Through this blog I intend to change that very mindset and encourage the "Generation Y" to take up policing as a career. There are many reasons why one would want to be a police officer but the most compelling of them all is the chance to help people when they need it the most, the ability to make a difference and the opportunity to bring about a change, also there are other perks such as job security, prestige, medical other health benefits and of course pension. In my opinion all of these benefits are prodigious considering the fact that we are living in an age where 1$=Rs. 68 and recession is looming on our head. A police officer has great power and responsibilities, he is a pillar of the society, his decisions have a direct impact on the masses and then there is fame, more fame than a person could ever get by working in a private company for the sake of an example one can google "dcp, crime branch" and see the huge number of links that crop up.The job of a police officer is exciting it is not a regular 9-5 job and you never know what will you be doing the next day.One can also get to chance to go abroad on central deputation and work with organizations such as the United Nations all in all a career as a police officer is indeed a rewarding one.
